Diego Sarrió Cucarella at the University of Notre Dame

Diego Sarrió Cucarella, MAfr, Dean of Studies of PISAI, delivered a lecture at the University of Notre Dame on 5 April 2018 entitled “Making sense of Islam: The Arab Christian contribution to an unresolved theological problem”. This lecture was part of the Colloquia organized by the World Religions World Church (WRWC) program, dedicated to the study of global religions and the global Church. The lecture focused on a view of religious history developed by several medieval Christian writers living within the world of Islam in response to Islamic claims. The lecture also examined the connection between theology, polemical literature and socio-political factors, in light of both the polemical and non-polemical ways in which Christian scholars have expressed their theological assessment of Islam.

Located in South Bend, Indiana, the University of Notre Dame du Lac was founded in 1842 by Father Edward Sorin, C.S.C. (Congregation of Holy Cross), who was also its first president. One of America’s leading undergraduate teaching institutions, Notre Dame also has been at the forefront in research and scholarship.
