Islamochristiana

undefinedIslamochristiana is the annual scientific journal of PISAI explicitly dedicated to Muslim-Christian dialogue. It is composed of three parts: the first part contains in-depth and research studies, reflections and personal witness accounts; the second part, notes and documentation concerning encounters between Christians and Muslims around the world; and the third part, summaries and reviews of books on dialogue. Founded in 1975 and directed for many years by Father Maurice Borrmans, the journal has developed its format over the years. One part of the studies revolves around a monographic subject chosen each year, while others are devoted to Muslim-Christian dialogue in the past and the present. Islamochristiana is published mainly in French, English and Arabic, but articles and studies are also published in other European languages.
Islamochristiana is listed among the class A scientific journals recognized by MIUR.

MAURICE BORRMANS ET MOHAMED TALBI : DE L’AMITIÉ À LA RUPTURE

The title of this volume, “MAURICE BORRMANS ET MOHAMED TALBI: DE L’AMITIÉ À LA RUPTURE”, has been inspired by a collection of essays that reflect on different aspects of the relationship between these two influential figures in the recent history of Christian-Muslim dialogue, both of whom died in 2017. As the title indicates, the friendship and collaboration in dialogue between Father Borrmans (who was a professor at PISAI for many decades) and Professor Talbi ultimately broke down. These essays tell a fascinating story of two prominent scholars and of their dedicated activity in a significant phase in the history of dialogue. The essays, covering different aspects of their life and work, are kindly offered by Geneviève Gobillot, Florence Javel, Antonio Navarro Carmona, Yosra Garmi and Rémi Caucanas, who also drew this collection of essays together with Michel Younès.

The section “Christian Theological Engagement with Islam” continues the title-theme of last year’s volume, with interesting contributions by Sidney H. Griffiths, Tobias Specker, Daniel Brown, Felix Körner and Gavin D’Costa, this last one based on his lecture at a Study Day held at PISAI on 26 October 2023, in which he analyses the essays on “Christian Theological Engagement with Islam” published in Islamochristiana 48. Two more thematic sections are “Christian-Muslim Relations in History”, with contributions provided by Martino Masolo and Rémi Caucanas; and, finally, the section on “Qurʾānic Studies” including four essays by Joaquín Paniello, Abdullah Saeed and by Moulay Ahmed Saber and Adnane Mokrani in Arabic.

This volume of Islamochristiana also includes the usual section of “Notes and Documents” and a rich number of book reviews.
